[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]APPEARANCE
[attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]HAIR // Brown[break]EYES // Brown[break]SKIN // White[break][break]ATTIRE[break][break]For David comfort is more important than style. Baggy hoodies, jeans, and worn in shoes make up most of his attire. He's in that stage where he hasn't quite transitioned into "professional" attire, leaving him with a mixture of polo-shirts in various hues and silly t-shirts covered in pop culture references.[break][break]GENERAL[break][break]Varying wildly between "disheveled mess" and "functional adult" David's appearance depends a lot on his mental state and how much control he has over his power. When he's in charge he keeps himself presentable; his hair combed, his beard shaved. When he is in the grips of his ability he often forgets these "trivial" things in pursuit of his latest invention. He's not in fantastic physical shape, but since making the decision to take to the streets he's started improving, so he's beginning to tone up. At 5'10" he's average among most people, far from the imposing form of many meta-humans.
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]PERSONALITY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]Thoughtful, punctual, focused, David was thought to be the reliable one by many of his friends and family. Recently he's had bouts of radio silence, some lasting for days, which has some of his friends worried. However, his mood is also dramatically better which leaves those same friends perplexed and hesitant to intervene. David loves puzzles, even ones he can't solve. He's not the friend you go to for a sympathetic ear, not because he doesn't care, but because he can't help but try to "fix" any issues he encounters.[break][break]In his guise as Clock Maker, David is larger than life, almost like a saturday morning cartoon. It's obvious he's having to much fun, and to some this might imply he's not taking this whole thing very seriously. He tries to get others to indulge his need for witty banter, always has a clock pun ready, and seems to downplay the apparent danger of what he's doing. Most of this is a lack of experience, and it's anyone's guess how long this attitude will last.
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]HISTORY
[attr="class","hopelovetop"]Born the oldest of two boys, David's childhood was pleasant. His parents worked hard to provide him and his brother with everything they needed. He was sheltered from this struggle for the most part, not seeing the effects the long hours were having on his parents. Curious from a young age, David broke many a toy by taking them apart, never quite able to put them back together again. Despite being thought of as smart, his grades were only good not exceptional. Though his parents tried to save throughout his life he realized that trying for a college education would likely end with him in a crippling amount of debt. Instead, he followed his interests in breaking and fixing things and found a number of temporary jobs once he left high school. He was a mechanic, did maintenance for an apartment complex, got certified as an electrician and a plumber.[break][break]At the time of the event he was working at a scrap yard, gutting appliances and vehicles before they were crushed, while also picking up shifts at an antique store restoring clocks, instruments, basically anything he could figure out. Originally, he thought he managed to survive the event with only a bad migraine. After all, in the wake of the mysterious attack others were demonstrating visible changes. It wasn't until weeks later, after a particularly bad migraine ended with him blacked out for almost two days, that he realized he had been affected. Somehow, during a manic black out his friends described as "Concerning" he managed to collect and assemble the components of a device that, according to all the research he's done since, should not exist. Hidden in a forgotten maintenance closet in his apartment complex he had somehow made a perpetual motion machine, an hourglass shaped monstrosity of gears and springs that never stops moving, and seemingly functions at greater than 100% efficiency, generating momentum as it runs.[break][break]In the following months David went through a process not unlike the stages of grief. He tried to deny it, convince himself there was a mundane explanation. Failing that he tried to blame whoever orchestrated the event for "doing this" to him. He told himself he would merely ignore it, only to discover that if he fought his powers the migraines blackouts got worse. Discovering this was accompanied with the creation of an attachment to his peculiar engine which converted the constant movement into electricity. His acceptance of his metahuman status allowed him some measure of control of his abilities. He also realized the materials he was using had, up until this point, been stolen from the scrap yard or bought from the local hardware store. Slowly his dejected acceptance turned into excitement as a single thought crystallized in his mind. [break][break]I'm going to be a super hero!
[attr="class","hopelovetitle"]POWER
[attr="class","hopelovetop"][attr="class","hopelovesub"]ABILITY[break][break]Applied Non-Standard Intelligence, also referred to as Mad Science by some. David has the ability to create seemingly impossible machines while also being proficient in their use. In his case, this ability manifests as clockwork systems that violate the laws of physics. He may claim he has a scientific explanation for how his creations work, but in truth modern science can not explain them. His devises function with non-existent tolerances, are somehow greater than 100% efficient, and his understanding of them borders on inhuman intuition. This understanding of devices also applies to certain mundane devices in addition to his own. [break][break] LIMITS[break][break]As his moniker might suggest, David's powers are limited in scope. His inventions rely on gears, springs, tension, and movement. His creations struggle to interface with more modern creations, such as electronics or even radio waves. His understanding of devices is likewise limited. He can intuit the form and function of moving, driven constructs but not the more common electronically driven systems. Computers are completely outside his power's influence.[break][break]WEAKNESSES[break][break]Materials are a major limiter for David. Scrap metal and re-purposed parts will only get him so far. Additionally, his creations function with zero tolerance, meaning without his intuitive understanding allowing him to operate and maintain them they become complicated paper weights, with so far only a single exception. Finally, and most seriously, his power demands to be used. Resisting the urge to create, or lacking the opportunity, gives David progressively worse headaches that eventually cause him to enter a fugue where invention trumps nearly all other needs. He's never been in a situation where this fugue couldn't work through whatever invention was needed to relieve the pressure, but if it continues to worsen the longer he's denied release it's difficult to say what might happen to him.
